An English longcase clock, made in the first years of XIX
Century.
It's the typical "grandfather clock", with 8-day weight driven movement
and one-second pendulum. The clock strikes the hours on a large bell, has
datework, subsidiary seconds' dial and lunar phase indication. The dial
is hand-painted and still in excellent conditions. Both case and movement
are sympathetically restored. Larger images can be seen clicking on
thumbnails. |
|
A close-up of the dial.
The name of the maker is clearly visible. The door glass is much probably
original, since it shows many tiny imperfections, not present in today's
glass.

|
The date-work window and the font used to write the maker's
name.

Close-up of the lunar phase disc. Two different paintings represent
two lunar phases.

A seascape is always present!

The front door opened to show iron weights, polished and
lacquered brass pendulum and pulleys. The strings are natural gut. |
